TAAF Mineral Stamps

Every year since 1989, (except 1992) a stamp or stamps featuring a rock, mineral or gemstone that can be found in the TAAF region has been issued. Initially these were issued with higher value but for some time now the stamp values have been more or less make-up values: never enough for the full price to post a letter even within the region. But lately LaPoste have been issuing these stamps in pairs with denominations that together, would be enough for the economy rate for a small letter.

Pierre Forget was the engraver for the start of the series up until his death in 2005. In fact, the TAAF Agate stamp was his last issued stamps. Mr Forget was a well known French artist and illustrator who engraved several stamps over the course of his long career. Since then, Elsa Catelin, Line Filhon and Claude Perchat have designed stamps for the series.

It is an interesting series of stamps for me because I collect both TAAF stamps and stamps with minerals on them.
